Muichiro Tokito

Muichiro Tokito (時透 無一郎 Tokitō Muichirō?) was a Demon Slayer and the Mist Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps. Muichiro was a short young man of light complexion with long, straight hair of a dark black color that faded to pale turquoise the closer to his waist it extended. He wore it loose with two clumps protruding slightly from each side of his head, a set of marginally shorter hair left down to frame his face, and unruly bangs over his forehead. He also possessed large, empty-looking, mint-green eyes, a trait, like his hair, that he shares with his twin brother, Yuichiro Tokito. Muichiro wore a dark, slightly turquoise-tinted of the Demon Slayer uniform, just with longer, looser sleeves that are more reminiscent of those of a kimono than of the standard cuffed uniform, and no bands of cloth around his calves, which gives his uniform an overall loose and sizeable appearance. Muichiro was an air-headed individual who seemed to constantly wander off in thought and never focus on one thing. Impassive and, at times, obtuse, he tended to think only for himself and operated on logic alone, never letting emotion guide him. However, he has been shown to get serious when it was required and was devoted to his position as the Demon Slaying Corps' Mist Pillar. When he was 10, before the death of his twin brother, however, Muichiro's personality was that of a much more caring individual. Having originally taken after his father, he has been shown to display much more kindness and understanding than fits his current demeanor, believing that he should aim to do good for others if he wanted good to be done for him. However, despite this, he always held an omnipresent rage deeply suppressed inside of him that inevitably drove his later training. After his memories returned, he started expressing more emotions and became more confident in himself. He also learned other expressions such as displaying sarcasm and smugness towards the fifth upper moon, Gyokko. Muichiro and his older twin brother, Yuichiro, were born to a woodcutter and his wife.

When they were 10, their mother caught a cold which developed into bronchitis and killed her and their father, away at the time, went to fetch medicinal herbs for her during a storm and ended up falling off a cliff to his death. The two siblings survived together, while Muichiro took after the emotive and kind nature of their father, Yuichiro instead held a cold and impassive outlook on life. In the following spring, Oyakata's wife, Amane arrived to recruit them for the Demon Slaying Corps. Muichiro's excitement was opposed by Yuichiro's unwelcoming and rejecting reception. In an outburst, Yuichiro revealed that he blamed the death of their parents on their hardworking and selfless nature and adopted a cold outlook, hoping to keep himself and his brother alive. While Amane continued to visit the twins, Yuichiro chased her away each time. In the following summer, a Demon arrived at their cabin during the night and attacked, and as a result Yuichiro lost his left arm while trying to protect Muichiro. As the Demon badgered them for their worthlessness, Muichiro lost himself in a rage and destroyed the Demon with all the tools at their disposal and wooden logs. By sunrise, the Demon withered into ash and Muichiro dragged himself back to the house. There, he found Yuichiro near death praying to the heavens that his brother might survive. He laid there grasping his brother's hand as he died. Amane and her daughters later arrived to heal him. Afterwards, Muichiro would lose his memories and leave his old life behind to serve the Demon Slaying Corps, and, due to his strength, he quickly rose to the rank of a Pillar. With his memories gone, he began taking after Yuichiro's personality. He also met Kyojuro Rengoku during this period in the Demon Slaying Corps, who told him to do the best he could as a fellow Pillar. The first kanji of Muichiro's first name, "nothingness" (無 mu?), is noted to also be used to write the word "infinity" (無限 mugen?).

Shinobu Kocho

Shinobu Kocho (胡蝶しのぶ Kochō Shinobu?) was a Demon Slayer and the Insect Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps. Shinobu was a petite girl with pale skin and large compound-looking eyes that do not possess pupils, only a haze of gradient, purple iris that becomes darker, the lower it goes, which made her eyes appear similar to those of bugs. She had short hair that faded from black into dark purple, fastened at the back of her head with a white and purple butterfly ornament with split ear-length bangs that rose a little away from her head before they fell down to frame her face, with two thinner chin-length strands below them. Shinobu was rather short in height and has been described as having a small and weak looking built, which is later reinforced by her saying that she does not possess the physical strength to cut a Demon's head off as the other Pillars do. Shinobu wore the standard Demon Slayer uniform that consists of a dark purple straight-lined black jacket, and hakama pants that were tucked into a butterfly pattern fabric around her lower legs. She also wore a white haori with a butterfly wing pattern, which faded into a turquoise then pink color down the sleeves, which were cuffed with a black and white dotted trim, and white sandals with purple straps. Shinobu was rather laid-back, always having a smile on her face regardless of the situation she's in. She seemed to enjoy teasing others and could be rather sadistic about it, enjoying most notably to pick on Giyu Tomioka.

Despite her relaxed exterior and her initial claim of wanting to get along with Demons, she can be rather cruel towards them, which is seen when she kills the Older Sister Spider Demon after giving her false hope of helping her, and also attempts to kill Nezuko Kamado without hesitation. When she was younger, as seen when Shinobu and her sister, Kanae Kocho, rescued the girl who would become Kanao Tsuyuri, she was shown to have a more brash and straightforward demeanor. Sometime after that flashback, however, she started outwardly behaving more like her deceased older sister, and eventually developed the serene smile and attitude to match. Later on she is shown to have a more compassionate side towards both Tanjiro Kamado and his sister after hearing their full story. Later, during her battle against Doma, Shinobu reveals that she has also suffered from an inferiority complex due to her inferior physical abilities compared to her fellow Pillars, having been jealous of them for possessing taller or more muscular bodies than her and cursing her own body for not developing further to make her more effective in combat. Later, as revealed by Tanjiro; Shinobu, despite her outward calm and tranquil disposition, is revealed to be in a near-constant state of anger due to everything she and others have lost. Her anger and frustration at her own body for being small and thus ineffective in combat, the death of her elder sister, the deaths of her former Tsuguko (aside from Kanao), and finally the orphaning of her apprentice healers, who lost their entire families to Demon attacks and were forced to enter into the Demon Slaying corps in order to survive. Despite not possessing the physical strength to cut off a Demon's head common to that of an average Demon Slayer or even the superhuman abilities possessed by her fellow Pillars, Shinobu is nonetheless as dangerous and deadly as the rest of them. Shinobu is the dictionary form of shinobi, an alternative name of ninja.

Sakonji Urokodaki

Sakonji Urokodaki (鱗滝 左近次 Urokodaki Sakonji?) is a Cultivator of Swordsmen in the service of the Demon Slaying Corps. He was also formerly a Demon Slayer, having held a position as a Water Pillar. Urokodaki's face has never been revealed or depicted; he is always seen wearing a tengu mask which covers his face. He appears to be an elderly individual as noted by the countless number of students he's trained as well as his silver colored hair.He is always seen wearing a jinbei styled kimono with a hood covering his head whenever he is travelling. Breath of Water Style (水の呼吸 Mizu no kokyū?): Sakonji is the primary instructor of this Breath Style. He has taught ten breath techniques to both Tanjiro Kamado and the successor of his former position as Water Pillar, Giyu Tomioka. The user can increase the amount of oxygen in one's blood by controlling their breathing pattern. Doing this increases his strength and agility to equal a Demon's. It is currently unknown what is his level of skill while utilizing this style, but it can be assumed that he was a formidable swordsman as a former pillar. Sakonji was ranked in 14th place as of the first character popularity poll with 213 votes.

It is said by Giyu in his letter to Sakonji that he has an enhanced sense of smell like Tanjiro. Having received a letter from Giyu Tomioka requesting that he train Tanjiro Kamado, which also explained the boy and his sister's circumstances, Sakonji set forth from his home to find the two. Upon finding them, he stops Tanjiro from attempting to kill a Demon with his knife, stating that the boy will be unable to kill the creature with such a blunt weapon. Admonishing the youth for his question of how to properly defeat the beast, the elder watches as Tanjiro struggles to come up with a way to dispatch the creature. Sniffing the youth, Sakonji determines that he is no good, as he still has the scent of kindness even when confronted by vile demons. While Tanjiro is still struggling to kill the demon, Sakonji buries the victims of the creature, afterwards kneeling by their graves with his hands together in prayer. He then introduces himself to the youth, asking if he is the one Giyu spoke of in his letter. Getting an affirmation to his inquiry, Sakonji goes on to ask the boy what he will do if his sister decides to feast on a human, slapping him when he hesitates to answer. He admonishes the youth on his slowness to answer, stating that he lacks determination, and stresses that he must not allow his sister to harm another human under any circumstance.

Kyojuro Rengoku

Kyojuro Rengoku (煉獄 杏寿郎 Rengoku Kyōjurō?) was a Demon Slayer and the Flame Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps. Kyojuro was a young adult of tall stature with bright yellow hair with red streaks, black forked eyebrows, and golden eyes. His outfit consisted of the regular Demon Slayer uniform along with a white-yellow gradient pattern and red flame-like ridges at the end. Kyojuro was greatly enthusiastic in regard to his duties as a Pillar and often cheerfully eccentric. He was amiable, kind and boasted extraordinary technique and swordsmanship stemming from strict practice and discipline. He was an honorable warrior who adhered to his code of morals and principles that was instilled into him by his mother at a young age - the most significant being that those who were born strong have a duty to protect the weak. Kyojuro is the eldest son of Shinjuro. His father was known as the Flame Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps until his unexpected retirement. During the Demon Train Arc, it is revealed that Kyojuro has a younger brother who trained alongside him until their father ceased to teach them.

His strength is displayed when he defends over 200 people from being slaughtered by the demons. He comes face to face with the Upper Moon Three, Akaza, and battles him head on but is fatally wounded and succumbs to his injuries. As a Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps, Kyojuro is a very powerful swordsman. Akaza, the Upper Moon Three, acknowledges Kyojuro's skills to were he offers him to become a demon to get even stronger. His father, Shinjuro Rengoku, stated that after his son abandoned what he taught him, Kyojuro trained himself into a pillar after reading through an instruction book of the Flame Breath, a book which only had 3 volumes. Kyojuro was ranked in 7th place as of the first character popularity poll with 1,021 votes. Kyojuro loves to watch sumo wrestling. Being a Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps, Kyojuro is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization. Akaza, the Upper Moon Three, was impressed at Kyojuro's highly refined swordsmanship. Kyojuro possessed great grip strength that was described as "unbelievable" by Akaza despite the fact he was gravely injured during that time. Kyojuro possessed great speed that even a trained Demon Slayer like Tanjiro couldn't see or follow, and could even cause tremors with it. Even Akaza, the Upper Moon Three, was impressed with his speed.

Giyu Tomioka

Giyu Tomioka (冨岡 義勇 Tomioka Giyū?) is a Demon Slayer and the Water Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps. Giyu is a tall, young man with medium length, messy black hair tied back into a low ponytail and dark blue eyes. He wears the standard black Demon Slayer's uniform along with a haori with two different patterns: one solid red and one geometrically patterned with green, orange, and yellow (the former belonged to his sister while the latter belonged to Sabito). Giyu always wears a serious expression on his face. He has a reserved personality and a strong sense of justice with no tolerance towards those who don't know their own limitations and throw away their lives. Despite letting Nezuko Kamado live due to Tanjiro Kamado's persistence, he shows zero hesitation when killing other Demons and has no respect towards them like most Demon Slayers. Despite showing zero hesistation in killing Demons and no respect towards demons, he violated the Demon Slaying Corps' code of conduct by protecting Nezuko from Shinobu, who attempted to kill her, and even put his life on the line for her and Tanjiro's sake by commiting sepukku if Nezuko were to eat a human. This implies that he doesn't completely despise Demons as some other Pillars do, and is willing to make an exception for a Demon by letting them live if they don't kill and eat humans.

Giyu appears to have a complex with what others think of him and is shocked when Shinobu Kocho claims he is hated by many. He doesn't say much and has trouble interacting with others, so he usually keeps himself at a distance. It is revealed that Giyu suffers from an inferiority complex which he developed since his participation in the Final Selection. It gets severe to the point where he contemplates abandoning his position as the Water Pillar until Tanjiro helps him realise that instead of acting on his survivor's guilt, he should cherish his life and live on for the people who sacrificed their lives for him. As a Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps, Giyu is a very powerful swordsman. He was able to easily defeat the Father Spider Demon in his transformed state and Rui, the Lower Moon Five. During his fight against Akaza, the Upper Moon Three, he was able to hold his own for some time. According to Akaza, he has not fought a Water Pillar as skilled as Giyu in fifty years. 義勇 (Giyu, ぎゆう) means heroism, loyalty, and courage. Being a Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps, Giyu is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization. Akaza, the Upper Moon Three, states that Giyu possesses finely crafted swordsmanship. Giyu is very fast, being able to tie up Inosuke Hashibira before he even realized what happened. He was also able to cut off Rui's head in the blink of an eye. Giyu possesses great levels of endurance, as shown when he endures a powerful attack from Akaza, the Upper Moon Three, and continues to fight with only minor bruises.

Muzan Kibutsuji

Muzan Kibutsuji (鬼舞辻無惨 Kibutsuji Muzan?) is a Demon, the first of his kind, the progenitor of many other Demons, and the main antagonist of Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is also the Demon responsible for slaughtering the majority of the Kamado family and transforming Nezuko Kamado into a Demon. He looks like a man in his late twenties. He has curly black hair and somewhat small eyes. His pupils are vertical, like cat eyes, and colored plum red. He usually is shown with a white fedora with red ribbon and a somewhat extravagant outfit. Muzan has the ability to change his appearance and has been shown to change his form often to hide from Demon Slayers. During his meeting with the Lower Moons, he arrived disguised as an elegant woman wearing a long black yukata, causing the Lower Moons to not initially recognize him. Later he transformed himself into his latest cover identity - the adopted sickly son to an old couple - taking the form of a young child aged 10 to 11 years old with pale white skin and black, silky smooth, neatly combed black hair. His main outfit in this disguise is a plain white button up shirt and black cargo shorts with long tube socks and loafers. Muzan is cold-hearted, ruthless and exceptionally intelligent. He sees no value in any humans he has encountered and shows little value in his own subordinates. Rarely ever visually upset or happy, he appears completely monotone and detached on most occasions, even when he callously murders his own subordinates. The only times he ever shows emotion are when his vision of perfection is moving forward or when he has subordinates completely submit to his will. The most prominent trait Muzan possesses is extreme narcissism and an obsession with becoming the perfect being.

As he has had nearly 1000 years to live and observe, along with hardly any real challenges, his extreme egocentrism is almost expected. He considers almost nothing to be his concern except overcoming his inability to walk in the sun, which is his primary drive. His long life and obsessions have caused him to want every plan he concocts to be absolutely perfect, and his god complex prevents him from seeing his own failures. His belief that he is the closest thing to a perfect being causes him to have zero tolerance for any failure, brutally punishing those who fail him or those he considers weak, even if the failures are minor. His inflated ego and delusional sense of self worth are so large that he cannot stand being mocked or corrected in any fashion, believing that others only exist to serve him. It also means he rarely ever takes any opponent or threat seriously. He brutally killed a pair of drunk men simply for being rude to him, and killed their female companion when she had done nothing, all while proclaiming his own perfection and superiority over them. When he finally managed to confront Ubyashiki, the man responded to Muzan in a tone of pity and sadness for the life he had lead. In Muzan's mind this registered only as insults and threats, which he used to justify his hatred for Humanity and the Demon Slayers. He has shown to be fairly manipulative and cunning, being able to blend in human society normally, even having a family of his own to add. A long life and continued practice has allowed him to take on many roles in society and play them capably, including children and women should he chose to. This life has also given him great intelligence and ability to think tactically. Muzan is a quick-thinker and strategist who is able to deal with unfavorable situations rapidly and quite well, though this may also be because loss of his subordinates means nothing to him in the long run. Because of his perceived superiority and his double-faced nature, he feels little attachment to his henchmen, using them and discarding them as disposable pawn whenever he pleases. He does not allow his subordinates to question his will, regularly enacting brutal reprisals should they do so. Many of his subordinates, in turn, are deeply afraid of him, and measure their words and thoughts carefully for fear of saying anything to displease him. He is able to sway many demons to his side with promises of power, revenge and grandeur, as long as they serve him.

His intelligence and manipulation shine here since many find the promises quite appealing, as he encounters many of his subordinates at their lowest point, when their emotions are easy fodder for him. Alas, all of these promises are ultimately false, given that Kibutsuji only cares about himself and has no qualms about killing his own men to protect his own safety. As proof of this, he curses his subordinates in a terrifying manner so that none of them may utter his name, or else they will be killed instantly in a morbidly cruel manner. Interestingly, this almost paranoid sense of self-preservation contrasts with his megalomania. As a young human man, Muzan was diagnosed with a disease that would kill him before he reached the age of 20. The doctor treating Muzan gave him a special prototype medicine. In a fit of rage, resulting from his worsening condition, Muzan killed the doctor. However, only after killing the doctor did he realize that the medicine was actually working. He had acquired a strong body. Muzan had no problems adjusting to having to kill other humans for survival, but the problem he faced was the fact that he was unable to walk in the sun. The sun was fatal to him, forcing him to resort to doing his activities only during the night, a condition that he resented.[7] It was at that moment, that he truly regretted killing the doctor, before he could have finished his treatment with his "Blue Spider Lily" medicine. He searched the entire country for the Spider Lily, but couldn't find it. Due to this, Muzan started to create more demons. Planning to spread them in the world, hoping that one of them would eventually find a way to overcome the sun or at least help him on his quest to find the Blue Spider Lily. He then wants to use this information to turn himself into a truly perfect being. His first name, Muzan, means "miserable". It also means atrocity, cruelty, cold-bloodedness, tragic, pitiful, and merciless.

Inosuke Hashibira

Inosuke Hashibira (嘴平伊之助 Hashibira Inosuke?) is a Demon Slayer in the Demon Slaying Corps and traveling companion of Tanjiro Kamado. Inosuke is a young man of average height and pale complexion with an extremely toned and muscular build for his age, possessing large, defined muscles most notably over his stomach and arms. In sharp contrast to this, he has an incredibly pretty and feminine face, with large, wide eyes that are framed by an array of long eyelashes, their irises a dark to soft pale green, thin eyebrows and what could be a small, well-mannered mouth. His thick, black hair reaches just past his shoulders, fading into blue at the tips and forming an unruly and uneven fringe that falls just above his eyes, puffing out before curving and thinning towards his forehead. Inosuke wears his altered version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, which consists only of the baggy hakama pants, his tinted a dark gray-blue, which he fastens around his hips with a thick belt of fluffy brown animal fur. The usual cloth leg-wraps are replaced with what appear to be knee-high socks of furry hide which expose his heels and toes, which also appear to be what fastens the sandal-bases he wears on his feet.

His most defining feature is the gray, hollowed-out boar's head he wears as to mask his own, the eyes of which he has tampered with to allow himself vision while wearing it, which has been revealed to have belonged to his late adoptive boar mother. Inosuke is an extremely short-tempered and proud young man who always likes to think he is the strongest fighter in a situation, constantly challenging most people he comes across and wanting others to respect and praise him for his skill. This often leads him into unnecessary danger, since he tends to overestimate his abilities in comparison to who it is he's fighting and refuses to accept when he's been defeated, which can be seen when Giyu Tomioka literally has to tie him up after his fight with the Father Spider Demon to prevent him challenging the Pillar to a fight while still severely injured from his previous battle. This constant wanting to be the best can also cause Inosuke to be very provocative, as he often tries to goad others, most prominently Tanjiro Kamado, into fighting him him, although in the case of the latter he usually fails due to Tanjiro's obliviously kind nature. Due to him having been raised by boars, Inosuke has also been shown to possess little understanding of normal human interaction, at least at the time of his debut, as he seems to frequently assume that people who approach him want to attack him, and doesn't appear to understand the kindness others show him.

However, as the story goes on, Inosuke is influenced more and more by Tanjiro's ways and becomes more accustomed to affection and generosity, learning to also acknowledge the strength of people besides himself and develop feelings of friendship towards him and Zenitsu Agatsuma, although he does still retain his proud nature and constant want for praise. He also begins to think more strategically when engaging in combat, using smarter tactics he has picked up from more experienced Demon Slayers and not just rushing into fights head-on without thinking. The "ino" in his first name sounds similar to the Japanese word for "boar" (猪 inoshishi?)After growing up in the mountains, Inosuke developed a sharp and incredibly sensitive sense of touch. He can even feel small vibrations in the air. Inosuke is extremely flexible, to the point where he is able to bend over backwards so far that his head reaches between his feet, and dislocate any of the joints in his body at will. Inosuke was able to resist and survive the effect of Upper Moon Six's poison although it was considered incredibly deadly, which suggests that he may have complete immunity to some poisonous substances. However, as stated by Aoi Kanzaki, this also means that none of Shinobu Kocho's medicines will work on him, so, if he is exposed to a stronger poison than that of Gyutaro or one that he has not developed a resistance to, they cannot be used as a remedy and he is in greater danger of death.
